Dr Karen Mitchell

Karen graduated form The University of Glasgow in 2013 and went on to finish her dental training in Dunfermline before moving to Edinburgh. She has been working at Abbeymount Dental Care since 2017 and enjoys every aspect of dentistry. In 2016 she gained membership to the Royal College of Surgeons and attends many post graduate courses and training days.
Karen has a special interest in restorative and cosmetic dentistry, she recently gained an MSc in Restorative dentistry from The University of Birmingham.
Treatments provided include, Invisalign braces, smile design and make over, restoration of worn and broken down teeth, full mouth rehabilitations, veneers, composite bonding, crowns and the restoration of missing teeth (bridges and restoring dental implants). She also provides treatments for TMD (pain from the muscles of the face, including masseter Botox) and gummy smile treatment.

Hannah has been at Abbeymount Dental Care since spring 2023. She is particularly interested in restorative dentistry and facial aesthetics and is focusing on attending courses to expand her clinical skills. Hannah loves cold water swimming and when not hanging out with girlfriends, she can be found in the Atlantic! Having lived in Valencia for six years, Hannah is fluent in Spanish and loves being able to provide this option to patients. ¡Hablamos! Her favourite music genre is classical.

Amir Sharif

Dr. Sharif graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2014 and began his career with foundation training in Sheffield, followed by a year of Core Training in Aberdeen. During his tenure in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department in Aberdeen, he honed his surgical skills, performing complex procedures alongside highly experienced colleagues. During this period, he also successfully passed his MFDS examinations, earning membership to the prestigious Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
Upon completing his core training, Dr. Sharif transitioned back to general dental practice, focusing on surgical and cosmetic dentistry. He pursued further specialization by completing a Master’s degree in Dental Implantology from the University of Manchester, graduating with merit. His thesis explored the efficacy of digitally printed surgical guides versus freehand techniques for implant placement, reflecting his commitment to precision and innovation in the field.
Dr. Sharif now dedicates his practice exclusively to dental implantology, accepting referrals for a wide range of implant procedures, as well as the removal of broken or impacted wisdom teeth. He is also passionate about teaching and mentoring fellow dental professionals in implant placement and restoration. Currently, he practices at an implant referral clinic and works peripatetically with various other practices, including Abbeymount Dental Care.
With a keen interest in challenging aesthetic implant cases, Dr. Sharif prides himself on delivering results where attention to detail is paramount. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys traveling and spending quality time with his family. He looks forward to welcoming new patients and collaborating with referring dentists at Abbeymount Dental Care.

Karen has worked in the dental industry for 20 years. Over the years she has achieved her NEBDN, Childsmile and Implantology qualifications. Until recently She was our training Coordinator for Edinburgh. She has now progressed to Practice Manager and is delighted to join the Abbeymount team.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family & friends, football and she can Shop till she drops.

Rachel has been at Abbeymount Dental Care since January 2024. She works predominantly as the implant nurse with our surgical dentist Amir and hopes to one day progress up to a practice manager. Before discovery her passion in dentistry, Rachel studied Biology at Heriot-Watt University.
Outside of work, Rachel loves BBQs in the sun (whenever Scottish weather permits) and shopping!!

A happy patient after Dr Karen Mitchell restored his failing front teeth. The patient had decided against dental implants so we transformed his smile with dental bridges. He’s now confident enough to smile again! 😁
A life changing transformation for our amazing patient. This was a joint case with Gregor McIntosh New Life Teeth Dr Gregor transforming the upper arch with a full arch implant bridge and placing some lower implants. Dr Karen restored the teeth that could be kept. Function and appearance restored! Patient was delighted with their new smile✨
This patient was sent to us to repair composite bonding. She had the composite placed a couple of years ago and was never happy with it. She couldn’t clean between her teeth and her gums were very inflamed. She reported she had been back multiple times with the composite chipping. Dr Karen Mitchell first removed all the composite from 7 teeth and placed small areas of new composite bonding on 5 teeth. A much healthier smile and a happy patient!
